EXTREME COLD WEATHER TIPS
- Turn your thermostat up to raise the heat in your home
- Let the water drip from your faucets to keep water moving through the pipes
- Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow more heat to get to the pipes
- Make sure your meter lid is closed on your water meter box
- Make sure all hoses are disconnected from outside hydrants
- Make sure all vents are closed in your home’s crawlspace to protect plumbing from cold air
- Make sure all underpinning is in place on mobile homes to keep cold air from water pipes
- If your hot water heater is located in your garage, keep garage door closed to keep cold air out
- Wrap water pipes with heat tape if necessary
